The history of Hemen Biarritz
The company was founded by the owners of the creative and apparel design studio called MakeMy Studio and culture specialist Bixente. Together, they’ve found the perfect balance between design, tradition, and comfort.
Back when shepherds used to move their livestock around between winter and summer pastures, life was quite harsh in the Basque country. When the shepherds were about to go out into the wilderness, it’s believed that their wives would give them special garments which would protect them from the cold.
It is from this tradition of making undergarments that Hemen exists. Their products are built on tradition and are comfortable to wear.

To begin with, we stock a range of styles of the ALBAR Organic Boxers. Each boxer has a line of red stitching going down the front of the piece as a contrast. They are timeless, comfortable, and look sophisticated.
Apart from the organic cotton, the Hemen boxers also have 4% elastane in them to make them comfortable to wear around your waist. These boxers come in a variety of colours - black, grey, copper, deep marine, sahara, green clay, white, and of course French Breton stripe.

Rounding up the collection of bottoms are the classic MARTI Organic Boxer Shorts, made of 96% organic cotton with added 4% of elastane, with an elastic waistband with the brand's logo and their signature red stitching.
Among other pieces, we have in our collection are top garments, such as the DANI Short-Sleeve Shirt in different designs. Our favourites are the Breton stripe and stone, which perfectly represent the simplicity and contemporary feel of these garments.
For formal wear, under your suit shirt, you can opt for GARI Organic Tank Top, also available in different styles like classic white or Breton stripe. There is an organic cotton loop detail on the top of the back panel of the garment which is decorated with a red line of stitch. How do I take care of my pieces?
Machine wash your Hemen Biarritz garments at 30 degrees. It’s suggested that you use original french Marseille soap, or Savon de Marseille, to wash. This is a traditional hard soap that is made out of vegetable oils.
Each piece is pre-washed to avoid shrinkage. Don’t use a softener as it reduces the absorption capacity of organic cotton. It is also advised that you don’t tumble dry these items as it could change their shape.
What is the ‘Hemen’ definition?
Hemen’s definition is "here" in the Basque language. For the brand, it means that they are in harmony with their time-held traditions, whilst being very "here" in the present.

What does it mean that Hemen Biarritz products are GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified?
As the cotton has to meet the criteria to be called organic, it is of a much higher quality standard too. All the organic cotton Hemen Biarritz uses has been certified by the GOTS, which means the cotton grown organically has as little impact on the environment as possible.
The production process is free of fertilizers and pesticides that may interact with local ecosystems, meaning that cotton production has a significantly smaller impact on biodiversity.
