History
Kapital was founded in 1985 by Toshikiyo Hirata, a visionary Japanese fashion designer who was inspired by the cultural and sartorial heritage of his homeland. The brand name is derived from "Kojima," the town in Okayama Prefecture that is widely known as the "Denim Capital" of Japan.
Family business
In 2002, Toshikiyo Hirata's son, Kiro, joined his father to take Kapital to new heights and bring a contemporary touch to the brand's traditional designs. Kiro brought a fresh perspective and youthful creativity that perfectly complemented Toshikiyo's wealth of experience and knowledge of Japanese craftsmanship.
Design
Kapital jeans are divine clothing that can't be missed in any capsule wardrobe collection. Not to mention the design, so significant for the brand's roots, with the use of traditional Japanese techniques such as Sashiko stitching, adding a unique visual style to their designs.
Exclusive pieces
These rare pieces are available exclusively through only a handful of resellers. If you’ve been wondering how to buy their pieces in the US or Europe: with HANSEN, you can get your hands on these exclusive pieces from the comfort of your home.
Sashiko stitching
Among others, the special Sashiko stitching technique Kapital uses for their clothing ensures longevity for each garment and adds a unique visual style to their designs. Sashiko stitching is a traditional Japanese method of decorative reinforcement stitching originally used for mending and repairing clothes. The use of this technique highlights the brand's commitment to preserving traditional techniques and cultural heritage in fashion.
Quality
The quality of these garments reflects through the design, representing the forward-thinking brand, as well as the unique Sashiko stitching technique, signature for Kapital jeans. These pieces stand out also thanks to the materials used, like the 100% Zimbabwe cotton used for them.

Kapital clothing is known for its adoration of streetwear and contemporary Japanese design, and they are not afraid to show it through their bold collections. There are many unique elements signature to the brand, like smiley faces and knee patches.
